Requirements
Philadelphia Sinfonia Players & Philadelphia Sinfonia
Students should be prepared to perform the following:
- Perform major scales up to 4 flats and 4 sharps (Strings perform 3 octaves; Woodwinds perform up to 3 octaves, when practical; Brass perform 2 octaves, when practical)
- Play two contrasting movements of a concerto, sonata, or solo work
“Contrasting” refers to one technical movement and one slower or melodic movement. You can use movements from two different solo works. Your repertoire choices should display your highest level of technique and musicality. - Percussionists should perform an appropriate solo work or etude on snare and timpani, and mallet keyboard if possible
- Percussion and harp should also prepare two orchestral excerpts of your choice
- Sight-read music provided in the audition
Philadelphia Sinfonia Strings
For students 10-16 years interested in our newest string ensemble:
- Perform 2-octave major scales up to 4 flats and 4 sharps
- Play a piece that demonstrates your technical ability
- Sight-read music provided in the audition
Orchestra Placement
Placement into our orchestras is determined by the audition.
- Philadelphia Sinfonia (PS) – advanced orchestra, conducted by Gary D. White
- Philadelphia Sinfonia Players (PSP) – advanced-intermediate orchestra, conducted by Danielle Garrett
- Philadelphia Sinfonia Strings (PSS) – intermediate string ensemble, led by Beth Dzwil
- Philadelphia Sinfonia Chamber Orchestra (PSCO) – advanced string orchestra, conducted by Gary D. White
