John Henry Bishop

Orchestra Production Intern & Percussion Specialist

John Bishop joined the administrative staff in the Fall of 2017 after a season of performing with Philadelphia Sinfonia.  As Orchestra Production intern, Mr. Bishop takes a conscientious approach to rehearsal logistics, which ensures that students receive the maximum learning time possible and the orchestra staff can remain focused on music education, with their needs consistently supported. As Percussion Specialist, Mr. Bishop provides mentorship to empower his students as artist percussionists with strong musicianship and teamwork skills.

Over the summer of 2022, Mr. Bishop joined the administrative team for the New Jersey Gamer Symphony Orchestra, where he is a regular performer. As acting logistics director, Mr. Bishop leverages experience from Sinfonia and other orchestras to help shape policy and bring organizational structure to this all-volunteer group, so that they may attain their goal of becoming a regionally recognized community orchestra.

Mr. Bishop graduated from William Paterson university with dual degrees in Japanese Culture and Music Studies.  He studied contemporary percussion under Payton MacDonald and John Ferrair.  Mr. Bishop regularly performs with groups throughout New Jersey and Philadelphia. His current groups include The Philharmonic of Southern New Jersey, where he is assistant music librarian.  In addition to performing, Mr. Bishop arranges for small chamber ensembles and composes works for solo percussion and small percussion ensembles.
