Caroline Kratz

Program Intern & Strings Specialist

Caroline Kratz, 17, is a violist of 7 years and a 2022 honors graduate of Penncrest High School. She is an experienced alum of Philadelphia Sinfonia, Philadelphia Sinfonia Chamber Orchestra, and Philadelphia Sinfonia Players, having been involved with the Association for over 5 years. She has had the pleasure of achieving the position of principal viola in PS and PSCO, has performed numerous times in the Kimmel Center’s Verizon Hall, and has worked with accomplished musicians such as Rachel Ku, Richard Amoroso, Kile Smith, Eliza Brown, and the ensemble in residence, Tempesta di Mare. She has studied viola with Lori Saidi and Che-Hung Chen; she currently studies with Elias Goldstein, Associate Professor of viola at the University of Delaware, as well as intermittently with David Rose, head of strings at SUNY Fredonia.

Miss Kratz is also a skillful contemporary musician. Daughter of composer Girard Kratz, she premiered his award-winning work for solo viola, Upon the Path of the Infinite; most notably, she performed this piece with Creative Synergy Media as a part of their Hear Philly collaboration with PS. From 2019-2022, Miss Kratz was a member of Settlement Music School’s Ben and Carol Auger Contemporary Ensemble coached by Linda Reichert. She has worked with contemporary artists such as David Ludwig, Roberto Pace, Tom Whitman, Andrea Clearfield, and Missy Mazzoli. Additionally, Miss Kratz has honed her skills in the PMEA State Festival, New England Conservatory’s Summer Orchestra Institute, and, most recently, Rocky Ridge Music’s College Intensive in Colorado. Next fall, she will be going to school to double major in pre-med psychology and viola performance. She is very excited to intern with Philadelphia Sinfonia Association!
